Norman Wolfinger, State Attorney State Attorney’s Office Brevard Government Center Complex 2725 Judge Fran Jamieson Way Building D Viera, Florida 32940
Subject: State of Florida v. Albert Jordan Dear Mr. Wolfinger: This letter is to request the fullest possible prosecution and punishment for Albert Jordan, the defendant in this animal abuse case. On June 28, 2009, a corporal with the Titusville Police Department witnessed a dog fight in progress in the backyard of the property owned by Wade Jordan. The police officer was unable to apprehend any of the perpetrators at the scene. The officer observed numerous dogs living in boxes, in deplorable conditions in the vicinity of the dog fight. These dogs had no access to clean water or food. They all lived in their own feces and urine and some were emaciated. Almost every dog had old scarring, “one dog had scarring all over her body – it appeared to be old and untreated.” Mr. Albert Jordan has admitted ownership of all eight dogs that were confiscated from the property. It is very disheartening that it was decided there was not enough evidence to prove felony dog fighting charges against Messrs. Albert and/or Wade Jordan, since (1) all eight dogs were found on Mr. Wade Jordan’s property; (2) Mr. Albert Jordan admitted ownership of all eight dogs; (3) there was scarring, old and new, on all dogs, which indicates a history of dog fighting; (4) dog fighting paraphernalia was found on the property; and (5) there was an eye witness (a sworn law enforcement officer) to the dog fighting event on June 28, 2009. I understand that Mr. Albert Jordan is being charged with seven misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty (828.13.2A) and is being scheduled for trial. In my opinion, it is evident that Mr. Albert Jordan had these eight pit bull dogs, not for companionship, but rather for a money-making enterprise, dog fighting! It is also my opinion that he is getting off easy by only being charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty. I would like to thank you for your prosecution of Albert Jordan and for fighting for a meaningful sentence – the maximum penalty, with sentencing orders on each count to be served consecutively. Thank you for taking animal abuse seriously and prosecuting accordingly! |
